Horror Social

Just out of three days of Meetup - last Friday, I was supposed to be back with Up in the Cheap Seats (UITCS) for A Fine Idea at the Arcola. A play that looks into the motivation behind the global causes that inspire us. Which does sound interesting - but then, The Hideout scheduled a horror chat and social for the same day, in The Three Johns. I missed the last one of these, didn't want to do that again - as I said to them, any chance they could organise these things earlier?! So I went to that instead. The pub does serve pizza, but that doesn't agree with me, so I booked to eat beforehand in The Peacock.

Needn't have - there was plenty of room, and indeed, after showing me to my table - which was in a slightly crowded part of the pub - she said I could sit elsewhere if I wanted. So I did. Service was quick and friendly.. I just had the chicken schnitzel, had to order fries separately. Both were excellent, I have to say - oh, and they do carafes of wine! so I had one of those too. Was slightly late leaving for the social.

It was only a few minutes' walk away.. I found them in the rear of the pub, in a room that was quite overheated. Well, it does have a skylight, and it was a very sunny day..



It was a long night, and a sociable one.. not as many there as have been at some socials in the past, which was nice, because I got to talk to a greater percentage of people. And there was much talk of horror, and of upcoming events.. as ever, watch this space.. We stayed late, and I was too tired to blog afterwards.

Oh man, I don't think I've ever had such a busy week, so many impediments to the blog.. Ah well, read on. I was too tired to blog after Saturday 's shenanigans, and on Sunday, things ran too late. That evening, I was back with  The Hideout  again for  They Will Kill You , a comedy horror about a girl who takes a job at a  Manhattan  mansion, only to discover it's a temple to  Satan , and she's tonight's sacrifice. However, they didn't know about the martial arts she picked up in prison.. not a spoiler, that's all in the trailer. In due course, the venue and time were announced - we were headed to the  Vue West End , and hallelujah, I managed to get a booking at  Bella Italia ! And I had a voucher.. Dark Secrets: The Esoteric Exhibition

Currently in a few more days of horror. Last night, I went to  Dark Secrets: The Esoteric Exhibition  at  Waterloo Vaults  - sounded too interesting to miss! Someone I knew from The Hideout was going too, but earlier - he said he'd wait for me. I booked with Fever , and handily enough they sent me a reminder email just beforehand, complete with QR code. Someone was busy overnight.. Oh Lordy, what has happened to the buses?! There are two buses I can catch from home straight to Waterloo - one is the infamous #188 - and neither was coming last night! Oh, the display said they were coming.. Google Maps said they were coming.. and then the old trick of the ETA getting later and later.. until they were going to be too late to get me there in time. So I decided the most sensible thing to do was to catch the #47 - which, amazingly, was coming - it wasn't going to Waterloo, but it was going to London Bridge , and I could catch the Jubilee Line from there to Waterloo! ...

Show: An Act(Or?)

Well, I had nothing on Saturday night.. I often do after Laurence 's walks, which - even with their long post-walk lunches - tend to be finished by 4pm, but on this occasion I had nothing booked. So, when my friend who got married last year got in touch, on behalf of another friend of hers, whom I'd met at the wedding, with a request from him to come see this show he was putting on.. I checked it was starting late enough, and said ok. Tickets were on Eventbrite . Mind you now, it was in Notting Hill , so even though I was already in the centre, it was a Tube journey.. I found the address ok - it was happening in his flat - then realised I didn't know the flat number! Now, I did have his phone number if it came to that - there were another couple of people outside with the same problem.
