London Still Rocks!

Last Tuesday , I headed to see  Is This Thing On?  A comedy about a guy who, having marital problems, heads to a bar - only to find it's open mic night, and he can't get a drink unless he does a turn on stage: so, for the first time ever, he attempts a bit of stand-up comedy. Directed and co-written by  Bradley Cooper , it stars  Laura Dern  as the wife - and as told to me by someone at  The Cartoon Museum , it's inspired by the story of  John Bishop ! Nearest showing to me was in the  Curzon Aldgate . My go-to eatery around there is Cote St. Katharine Docks , so I booked - and then moved my booking time back by a quarter of an hour, because of course I wasn't ready! And when I headed out, it was absolutely pouring rain.. Seeing that a bus was due soon, I waited and took that - mind you, just for a couple of stops, to Tower Bridge . So I still had to walk most of the way - I was drenched and dripping by the time I got there. Well, my coat and bag ...

Today only, the  Cinema Museum  was showing  The Big Heat , a film noir with  Glenn Ford . Jocelyn Brando - Marlon 's big sister - plays his wife, and Lee Marvin is the thug in the upper echelons of the crime syndicate he's investigating. Booked to eat beforehand in the  Toulouse Lautrec . I was glad to see the bus stuck in traffic again - I'd have missed it otherwise. Its destination sign said Waterloo - that was fine, I was to get off well before that. However, this traffic didn't let up all the way there - the journey took over three times as long as it should have, and me with a 15-minute walk or so to the cafe. I disembarked with two minutes to go till my booking.. and legged it down the road, nearly halving Google Maps ' estimate of how long the walk would take me! In the end, I got there just over five minutes late. The nice man said that was no problem - well, the place was practically empty! I chose the cosy corner table - had a large Sauvignon Blan...

Ah, the end of the blog backlog is nigh.. So! After the film list coming in late - and me spending an inordinate amount of time on it, in case I wanted to use it as a reference for this week's films - I didn't use it at all! despite spending the entire weekend actually going to films. With Movie Roadhouse London , who picked rather well for me. Last night, the choice was the British Documentary Film Festival , at the Close-Up Cinema  - tickets with Eventbrite . Now, the last time I was there was for last year's American Horror Film Festival .. this year's was on Friday , but of course I was otherwise occupied. And last time I was here, I ate in Cinnamon - booked there again this time, and remembered to bring a bottle, as they don't have wine in-house. ..Except, when I got there, it was closed.
