Film: The Secret Agent

Currently in Ireland for the weekend - a little earlier than anticipated, but I'll be busy for the rest of the month, so figured I might as well go now, before things hot up! The flight was fun, apparently full of members of some girls' team or other - given the Irish accents, I'd guess they'd been over in London for the week and were now coming home. Anyway, I did manage to get a nap in - also read a bit more of that work book club book I never finished - James Acaster's Classic Scrapes . And it continues to be hilarious.. Today, decided to go and see  The Secret Agent , finally - a political thriller set in  Brazil  in 1977, highly rated, and happily still showing in  Ennis , which is handier. There was only one showing today - at 3.20pm - so I managed to get myself out for that. A bit late leaving, of course - and my heart sank as I entered the cinema and saw the queue at the box office. Never mind, I persisted - and wow, still made the film in perfect time! The ...

Film: Send Help

I'm back in Ireland for the weekend- a good weekend not to be in London, with  Valentine's Day  in the middle.. signs of which were evident throughout my departure: The crowd of men clustered around the card stand in WH Smith The extra-large queue at the airport As I trudged to the plane, one of the shops was playing Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights .. Today, I went to   Send Help , which has   Rachel McAdams   suffering under a horrible boss: until the private plane on which they're travelling to a meeting crashes, and the two of them are washed up on a desert island. He's injured, and spends a couple of days unconscious - by the time he comes to, she's in charge. Heh. Very much wish fulfilment, this.. Decided to see it in Ennis - with my friend who usually meets me unavailable, I took the opportunity to put on a wash this afternoon, then headed in in the evening. By 'eck, it's cold out there.. and wet. I went early, to eat in Supermac's beforehand -...

Film: Weapons

I'm back in Ireland for the weekend  - flew with  Aer Lingus  because  Ryanair , ironically, was so ridiculously expensive.. so I got the Elizabeth Line . Now, when I did this before, I was practically pushed out the door, it was so crowded - so, when I saw I could take the Thameslink to Farringdon and catch it there, a bit earlier in the journey, I thought that an excellent idea, and that's what I did. And yes - the Thameslink was lovely, comfy and air-conditioned.. and although I didn't get a seat on the Elizabeth Line until I was nearly at my destination, I wasn't in danger of being pushed off either, as before. And to be fair, I could have taken seats that a couple of people offered - wasn't in need, though. The flight was very nice, apart from a wee altercation when I asked for a white wine, and to accompany it, they gave me a glass with ice! I sent it back, asked for one without - and you should have seen the stewardess' face.. what is it with white wine...

Trip to Marseilles & Film: 28 Years Later

Image
Ah, our last day in Provence - I was delighted to be leaving. We rose early, packed quickly - our verdict on our accommodation was - hard beds (although, again, not as hard as the Aldstadt Hotel Zurich ), indifferent cleaners - the first time they cleaned, all they did was turn off a light that had been left on: the second, they made the beds and changed the towels. This during a week's stay. But anyway, it was generally fine. We knew where to go for the bus to the airport , and already had our tickets - so it was easy. Now, my companion had the excellent idea of heading to the airport first and dropping our bags - the website said there were left-luggage facilities in Terminals 1 & 2, and Terminal 2 was where I'd be flying from, so I suggested that. Unfortunately, when we got there, we were told it was only in Terminal 1. Off we went there, and deposited them - the guy was very confused to hear we'd be coming back at different times, but it all worked out in the end....
