London Still Rocks!

These two days, it's film - for tonight , it was   Exhibition on Screen: Michelangelo - Love and Death . Which is showing in the   Curzon Bloomsbury . Headed out there in decent time - taking advantage of bus #1 , which shouldn't pass so close to me, but apparently is these days; I think it's on diversion, which is possibly why neither Google Maps , Buses Due , nor TFL seem to know it's coming at all! How bad, it takes me straight there, just as the #188 used to do.. Made it just in time. I hadn't booked in advance - flashed my membership code, and she was most perplexed as to why no discount was displayed for me! She mused that it might be because it was "an event". Never mind.. I proceeded downstairs (mercifully only one floor), where they were setting up for a reception - presumably to do with whatever event was associated with the film. Tonight, I headed - for the first time in  years  - to join  Kensington Classical Music Meetup  at a concert called  Nordic Journey , at the  Leighton House Museum  - tickets only available by contacting the organiser directly, as advertised on the Meetup event page. Except I later discovered I could just have bought one on Eventbrite .. I also, last night, discovered that the organiser had pulled out, so I'd be going on my own. Interestingly, as I was examining past events from the group, I discovered he'd advertised this exact concert last week.. so, technically dated last week, but with today's date on the blurb! So, perhaps he and the other person who signed up for that were actually there tonight! If so, they were keeping a low profile.. You know, now that people at work know I'm off for a few days (as described below), they're getting very keen to give me things to do. Today, second day in a row of four for film, I saw a film under my own steam -  A World Not Ours  is a documentary that promised a different take on the  Ein El-Hilweh  refugee camp in Southern  Lebanon . Showing in another  Curzon   (also second day in a row)  -  Curzon Bloomsbury , this time. I raced off, after publishing the last post , and - the bus that Google Maps had suggested to me was nowhere near! However, a combination of other buses got me there in good time, and despite the usher's misgivings, I managed to get wine, chocolate, and phone, downstairs to the screen without an accident! I was at the end of the row - fortunately, because this screening, the only one of this film currently, was pretty packed. Indeed, the director was present for a Q+ A afterwards. It's his personal story, interviewing his family and friends about what it's like there. And at the end, he describes his friend's bid to escape - actually interviews him...

T onight and tomorrow are film again. Tonight's is one that's been hanging around a while -   La Chimera   is an   Italian   romance/comedy/fantasy, as described, and looked from the trailer to be a delightfully quirky thing. I was delighted to be catching it at last! Closest showing was the   Curzon Bloomsbury   - one of my favourite venues, was looking forward to that. I was going to go to the earlier showing, but what with writing the blog, it ran too late, so it was the later one. I tried to book, but of course the app is playing up again! Just as well, or I'd have booked for the early one.. I decided to eat beforehand -   GBK , nearby, is excellent. And it was just as well it worked out that way, because I was hungry. Made it to GBK just before 7, which was kind of perfect - the film was at 8.40. Now, I've been having the chargrilled chicken in my burgers there for a while, mainly because it fits better in the burger, whereas the chicken in breadc...

Well, I'm back in London. Although getting home last night didn't seem at all a sure thing - my flight was delayed, of course, and I didn't get into London until after midnight. Trying to get a bus was great fun - the departure boards (for both stops I could use) were crazy, Google Maps was telling me the next buses wouldn't be for hours.. I'd have walked faster. I changed stops, then saw a bus I could have taken, which wasn't supposed to come for hours, sail past from the other stop . Mercifully, mine came in the end.. after 20 minutes. Today, I decided on film as well - and what came up was  Anatomie d' une Chute (Anatomy of a Fall) . The trailer for this looked really good - a man's body is found in the snow under his family's ski chalet. His wife comes under suspicion, as they try to decide whether he fell.. or was pushed.
