Comedy: Ludwig - Unfinished Business & Film: Nosferatu (1922)

Image
Yesterday , I was back with CT for Ludwig: Unfinished Business , a comedy about Beethoven , showing in the Playground Theatre and performed by an actual pianist . Another Fringe preview. Eating in The Pavilion beforehand - and it's a good thing they reminded me on Monday, because I'd totally forgotten! Over an hour, no matter how I got there.. unless, perhaps, I flew, which wasn't practical. So, Tube it was.. and WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT, severe delays again. Signal failure again. How long has it been since the Jubilee Line was usable?! Took the Northern Line , therefore, to connect to the Central Line - which wasn't too bad; the aircon wasn't great, but it was there, and I got a seat after a couple of stops. A long and, frankly, boring walk to the pub followed - lots of terraced houses and gardens, a sports pitch, and a big flyover. The pub itself wasn't crowded - the youngster serving me hadn't a clue where to look for the reservations, so just gav...

Play: Under the Shadow, Operetta: The Chocolate Soldier, & Play: Monarchs Anonymous

Wednesday and Thursday were with Up in the Cheap Seats  (UITCS)  - on Wednesday, we were at Under the Shadow , a horror play, based on the film , about a mother and daughter, trying to survive in a Tehran that is being bombed, who find themselves being haunted, on top of it all. Showing in the Almeida .  I went early - the bus was stifling, but at least I had a seat downstairs. I headed for food in The Bull , as always around here.. the walk wasn't pleasant, short as it was, but the pub looked inviting: It was a little more crowded than usual, but I got a table - now, the chicken schnitzel, which I love when it's done well, was a little burnt the last couple of times here, and I half thought of getting the fish n chips, which is renowned - but I'm so glad I plumped for the chicken, which was terrific on this occasion. I polished off a second glass of wine before heading on another short walk to the theatre. And wow, if you hadn't noticed the aircon, you certainly...

James Joyce Walk & Play: A Midsummer Night's Dream

Image
Last Wednesday night,  with  London Literary Walks .. he's BACK!! Great stuff - and he started, appropriately for me, with the  James Joyce Walk . I was actually supposed to go last week, but it transpired that his popularity was proving a hindrance - he had too many people for that night, and asked his regulars to switch to another date - he was actually doing the walk twice more: the next day, and last Wednesday night. So I went last Wednesday night. Happily, the weather was dry, if a bit chilly.. Second day in a row on the Jubilee Line .. and just as crowded both nights. I just managed to squeeze on the first one. At least this time, I got to change to the Circle .. no crowding, spacious carriages, and a seat. Thought I felt a few drops of rain as I walked to the pub - but that was as much as we had. We were in The Goat Tavern , and well, as our guide was wearing the same shirt I've seen many times before, I had little trouble in spotting him - and it was good to see h...
