London Still Rocks!

Back to London, yay, and today, I decided on film again - and decided I might as well (finally, given that The Hideout saw it ages ago) head to Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma , starring Gillian Anderson , whose only showing this evening was supposed to be in the Cinema in the Arches , at Battersea Power Station . Well, I checked last night - and lo, Curzon Aldgate , a lot closer to me (and with which I have a membership..) was showing it late tonight. I booked to eat beforehand at Cote St. Katherine Docks , between me and it. Still stayed ridiculously late, walked there, arrived 25 minutes early, but they took me. Debated whether to eat outside, but it was a teensy bit cold - mind you, it was a teensy bit warm inside! Never mind, I was well fed. For dessert, I had a dessert wine (half bottle), which caused my waiter no end of amusement. ;-) I assured her I'd had it before,, and yes, it was lovely.. Walked to the cinema, was a little late for the trailers, but hey. I'd go...

Yesterday , I was back with CT for Ludwig: Unfinished Business , a comedy about Beethoven , showing in the Playground Theatre and performed by an actual pianist . Another Fringe preview. Eating in The Pavilion beforehand - and it's a good thing they reminded me on Monday, because I'd totally forgotten! Over an hour, no matter how I got there.. unless, perhaps, I flew, which wasn't practical. So, Tube it was.. and WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT, severe delays again. Signal failure again. How long has it been since the Jubilee Line was usable?! Took the Northern Line , therefore, to connect to the Central Line - which wasn't too bad; the aircon wasn't great, but it was there, and I got a seat after a couple of stops. A long and, frankly, boring walk to the pub followed - lots of terraced houses and gardens, a sports pitch, and a big flyover. Wednesday and Thursday were with Up in the Cheap Seats  (UITCS)  - on Wednesday, we were at Under the Shadow , a horror play, based on the film , about a mother and daughter, trying to survive in a Tehran that is being bombed, who find themselves being haunted, on top of it all. Showing in the Almeida .  I went early - the bus was stifling, but at least I had a seat downstairs. I headed for food in The Bull , as always around here.. the walk wasn't pleasant, short as it was, but the pub looked inviting: It was a little more crowded than usual, but I got a table - now, the chicken schnitzel, which I love when it's done well, was a little burnt the last couple of times here, and I half thought of getting the fish n chips, which is renowned - but I'm so glad I plumped for the chicken, which was terrific on this occasion. I polished off a second glass of wine before heading on another short walk to the theatre. And wow, if you hadn't noticed the aircon, you certainly...

Just started  three days of film. Tonight, I headed to  California Schemin'  at the  Curzon Aldgate . It's a comedy about two youngsters from   Dundee   trying to break into  hip hop , who discover it's much easier if they pretend to be from  California ! Looked funny, and is   James McEvoy 's directorial debut - he stars as well, as a record company exec. And it's based on a   true story ! Funnily enough, I didn't use one of my free tickets (well, £65 for five, pay upfront, then they're free) for this, it worked out cheaper to buy a discounted one.. I booked to eat in   Cote St. Katharine Docks   beforehand. Could walk there, and I did - earlier rain cleared off, to give us brilliant sunshine. Have to say, I always love their location, overlooking the marina. Unfortunately, my watch was a little slow, so I didn't realise I was slightly late for the booking - never mind, it wasn't a problem, and I was quickly seated and quickly...

Last Tuesday , I headed to see  Is This Thing On?  A comedy about a guy who, having marital problems, heads to a bar - only to find it's open mic night, and he can't get a drink unless he does a turn on stage: so, for the first time ever, he attempts a bit of stand-up comedy. Directed and co-written by  Bradley Cooper , it stars  Laura Dern  as the wife - and as told to me by someone at  The Cartoon Museum , it's inspired by the story of  John Bishop ! Nearest showing to me was in the  Curzon Aldgate . My go-to eatery around there is Cote St. Katharine Docks , so I booked - and then moved my booking time back by a quarter of an hour, because of course I wasn't ready! And when I headed out, it was absolutely pouring rain.. Seeing that a bus was due soon, I waited and took that - mind you, just for a couple of stops, to Tower Bridge . So I still had to walk most of the way - I was drenched and dripping by the time I got there. Well, my coat and bag ...
