Southwark Hysteries Solstice Special walk, Play: Reel Life, & Work Summer Party

Image
O n Sunday - I was thinking of heading to see West End Live , the free performance snippets of West End shows, performed in Trafalgar Square .. always a good one! But then, on what was a very busy day for Meetup organisers, London Museums A-Z (LoMAZ) organised a guided walk! And as it was around my area, I could hardly resist - we were to meet in Starbucks before heading off on a Southwark Hysteries Solstice Special walk, as presented by Herstorical Tours , in the person of someone who gloried in the name of Lydia Chlamydia, and was a whore of Ancient Rome .. and Camilla did such a good job of selling it at the   Quentin Blake event that she got a good few more takers. I live not that far away - I could walk there. And miracle #3 of the weekend was that the sign I'd brought specifically for her, from Hever, the day before , as freshly laminated by Jonny, made it to Starbucks safely and was delivered! Not straight away though - I was early. Saw toasties and thought that...

Film: Brain Damage, Concert: Metamorphosis, & Storytelling: Orpheus Dismembered

Image
Well, again on Monday I was too tired to blog - and Tuesday saw me booking some things ahead, which took up all my spare time. That evening , I was back with  Movie Roadhouse London , who were dipping their toe in horror as well.. subsequently also advertised with The Hideout .. we were seeing  Brain Damage , an 80s body horror about a guy infected with an alien parasite..  hmm. Showing in  The Nickel Cinema   - which turned out to be around the corner from  The Wilmington , so I booked there again. Now, I might have known that the organiser would have an idea where to eat - and he found a few places closer than that - so I cancelled my booking for The Wilmington, which hasn't been great for food lately anyway, and has never been good for service. First, he suggested an Italian - but it turned out to be one of those places you have to email for a booking, and they never got back to him. So instead, we ended up in The Lady Ottoline !  Well, the buses w...

Kirckman Concert: The Astatine Trio & Play: Dressing Gown

Image
I was pretty stuck for what to do - until   my cheap ticket sites - particularly TAC - came up with options at last! And for the last two nights, that's whom I went with - last night, for another   Kirckman Society classical concert   at   King's Place , this time featuring the   Astatine Trio . What a delight to have the buses back in working order - I made it to King's Cross in time to get something to eat. My go-to around here is Nando's - there have been times the queue has stretched out the door, but happily not last night, and I was soon seated. Ordered on the app, and waited. Now, this venue is kind of notorious for their slow service - well, I watched as, of the couple beside me, he got his dinner. Another pause, and I got my dinner.. I didn't blame the young lady accompanying him for questioning where hers was, at that point! She did swiftly get it, which makes me think it was ready, and just ignored - not sure what the issue is with the staff here, b...

Concert: Duo Corde Brillanti

Image
This evening, I was with TAC at a classical guitar concert,  Duo Corde Brillanti , at  King's Place . (Jeez, I've seen so many different spellings of that - now going with the one on the free programme I got on the way in, I figure that's as close to a source of truth as I'm going to get! I appreciated the extra hour - had a lovely lie-in! and naturally, with the day to get ready, was still rushing at the end. The bus route was the same as Friday , which made it easy - and the buses came quickly, which I appreciated on such a cold day. My plan was to check out Nando's King's Cross for food - I was a little tight for time, and they're quick and convenient. Unfortunately, they also tend to be busy.. with a queue that stretched onto the road , and me in a little bit of a hurry, I scouted around - same story as Tuesday , a queue at The Barrel Vault , would you believe, and all the seating outside the upstairs eateries occupied. And just like Tuesday, I ended up...

Summer Party & Musical: Lovestuck

Image
Last night, we had our work summer party, at the  Rotunda in King's Place , of all places! Gee, took me ages to make that connection.. I should have gone into the office first, especially as they had drinks, games, and prizes before the evening event - but I was afraid of there being too much competition for desks, so I didn't, setting out by bus from home instead. And wow, was it hot.. I could have got a bus closer, but in the end was glad it was delayed, and I didn't - it was lovely to have a bit of a walk to cool down a bit. As I approached the building, whom did I meet but two women who work with me, and had come together - at least one of them was wearing sunglasses, and I wouldn't have recognised them at all if they hadn't spotted me first! Just as well I met them, too - they were about to get horribly lost, heading around the side of the building, saying they'd seen a sign pointing them that way. I redirected them - to be fair, why would you expect to ha...
