Play: Way Upstream

This evening, I was  with TAC for Way Upstream , a dark comedy performed by final year students at the Court Theatre Training Company , at their onsite theatre, The Courtyard . Booked to eat beforehand in Schnitzel Heaven . I left in good time for the bus - which was doing its usual schizophrenic thing of saying it's coming later - then sooner - then later - and there I was researching my options because it wouldn't come in time, when it decided it was coming within five minutes. Happily, the driver was one of those lunatics who drive too fast whenever they can, and right up to other traffic.. I got there in record time, and was actually early for my booking. Again, it was empty when I arrived - 6pm seems to be ideal for that - but filled up soon after. Oh, I should know not to have a starter, the portions are so large - but the trio of cheese croquettes sounded interesting, so I had that. You can choose to have both courses together, but I figured that'd be too much f...

Film: Brain Damage, Concert: Metamorphosis, & Storytelling: Orpheus Dismembered

Well, again on Monday I was too tired to blog - and Tuesday saw me booking some things ahead, which took up all my spare time. That evening , I was back with  Movie Roadhouse London , who were dipping their toe in horror as well.. subsequently also advertised with The Hideout .. we were seeing  Brain Damage , an 80s body horror about a guy infected with an alien parasite..  hmm. Showing in  The Nickel Cinema   - which turned out to be around the corner from  The Wilmington , so I booked there again. Now, I might have known that the organiser would have an idea where to eat - and he found a few places closer than that - so I cancelled my booking for The Wilmington, which hasn't been great for food lately anyway, and has never been good for service. First, he suggested an Italian - but it turned out to be one of those places you have to email for a booking, and they never got back to him. So instead, we ended up in The Lady Ottoline !  Well, the buses w...

Play: Blithe Spirit

Last night, headed with TAC for the first time in an age, to  Blithe Spirit , by  Noel Coward , in  The Courtyard . Booked to eat beforehand in  Schnitzel Heaven  - where I thought I might try something other than the katsu, for once! Left from the office in good time - and the bus was late. It did eventually show, having to park behind a broken-down one - and damnit, was already full. So I started by having to stand, laptop and all - but got a seat after a few stops. And mercifully, it didn't stop short, like last time ! Made the restaurant a few minutes late - but really, I didn't have to book at all. Indeed, later, a group of seven (!) well-fed-looking people who, when asked, described themselves as Austrians , showed up without a reservation, and were seated with no problem! Obviously keen for a taste of home. The server remembered me, which was nice. They're friendly here.. and were constantly in and out to delivery couriers - they do a fantastic takeaway ...

Concert: Jesus Guerrero & Guests

Last night.. flamenco!! Which I love. Found a group,  Flamenco Events in London , and requested to join - but they completely ignored me! Anyway, booked for this  concert  they were advertising,  in  St. John's Church Hoxton . Tickets from  Eventbrite  - free after-show party, but I passed - have work today, of course. Booked with  Schnitzel Heaven  for beforehand.  A couple of small tasks, I completed at work in good time - and really didn't feel like hanging on. So I was away early - and my bus came promptly. I was glad I'd got on near the start of the route, though - wow, the crowds that got on along the way! Especially where I got off - a stop early, the driver having informed us (in good time, at least) that the next stop was closed. So, I had a slightly longer schlep with my laptop - especially not appreciated given that I skinned my heel on Wednesday, walking in my new boots! Still made it a quarter of an hour early - they asked...
