Immersive Audio: Visitors

Tonight, I booked with London Literary Walks for The Fitzroy Square Walk - and wouldn't you know it, they were meeting in The Greene Man, which is my go-to for food around the area..! But then.. well, in Darkfield, the only show I hadn't been to was Visitors - which, as well as being solely for couples, was completely sold out. However.. due to popular demand, they extended the run to tomorrow - and a member of The Hideout agreed to be my +1 for Visitors, saying it sounded interesting! Today was the day he suggested, though.. and all the early shows were already sold out! So we booked for the 7.30 show, and I had to cancel the walk. (All Visitors shows are now completely sold out.) We headed to The Blues Kitchen for food beforehand.

I would've been early, but for engaging in conversation with my loquacious flatmate, who happened to be enjoying the sunshine (albeit, not the heat - as he complained, it's turned cold). So instead of catching an early bus, I got the one I was supposed to, to get there in time. Elected to get off before the traffic jam at the top of the road, and walk up - just made it in time. To find my companion waiting for me, with a bottle of wine! Good stuff..

We were seated shortly, made short work of the wine between us, and both had fried chicken - which was very good. My, it was busy though.. as I remarked, well, it's a short week, with a bank holiday on Friday - so I guess Wednesday is the new Thursday, which is the new Friday.. I was rather glad to leave when we did, it was getting noisy.

There was still a bouncer at the archway tonight, but much less prominent than last week. And it was nice of him to give us directions - the guy last week didn't! In we went, I gave my name at the desk, and she told me to check in with her colleague - who was easy to find, being the one with the clipboard. I was right in my assumption that the reason it's selling out is quite simply that they only allow one pair at a time! We were shown into a rather scruffy sitting room, a disused fireplace, two armchairs, each with a pair of headphones. And told not to lean on the doors..!

It's not the scariest I've experienced, but it's good, with a lot of really close-up effects. And the reference to the doors is interesting, as one does feature in this. And.. I can't really say anything else, risking spoilers! But I enjoyed it, and am grateful to my companion for allowing me to complete the set. Also, frankly, nice to have an early night - I'm heading into the office tomorrow.

Tomorrow evening, I'm flying back to Ireland for a short Easter break - where I'm delighted to see, there seem to be plenty of new film offerings, so I should be busy. Only problem is, Sinners doesn't yet have a rating out of 10, so I don't know where to put it - watch this space. Back in London on Monday evening..

I did the film listings, thinking of a film on Tuesday - of course, I could just have skipped all that effort, it was pretty certain I was going to Nosferatu (again) with The Hideout. I've figured out what I like so much about it, you know.. it's not the scariness, although it has that; it's the sheer exuberance with which the film embraces the horror. I like it in much the way I like chocolate fudge cake - it's rich, it's indulgent. It's showing in the Prince Charles, and they're meeting beforehand in the bistro + wine bar in Victory House. However, I couldn't for the life of me find a menu online - except for breakfast - and I read some iffy reviews: so as usual, I'll be eating, before that again, in the local Bella Italia. Now, the last one I ate in promised me a £10 voucher for completing their survey.. hope it arrives in time!

Next Wednesday, going to their Cherry Blossom April Social! In conjunction with Movie Roadhouse London, of course - the name, mind you, conjures up summery-er weather than we have now. In the BFI as usual - the lounge though, this time. I'm eating in The Archduke beforehand.

And on the 24th, back to storytelling - this is The Hairy Girl, back at Folklore Hoxton. Courtesy of the Crick Crack Club. Interestingly, the same night, they have Hugh Lupton telling the story of The Homing Stone at the Story Museum Oxford - which always does streaming tickets! So I've bought one of those as well - they're always available for a week afterwards. Now, if I could only remember to watch them..
