Backyard Comedy Club
Last night, back with CT to the Backyard Comedy Club - hoping for a better lineup - and had to bring my laptop, as yesterday was my day in the office this week. And a very good day it was! Might keep this company - they seem lovely! :-) Not too much of a trial, lugging the laptop, really - I didn't have far to go for the bus, and rode it to pretty close to the club. Damn windy on the last stretch, as I walked to the club - but I managed. The main problem was, I didn't dare leave it at any point, so I was constantly carrying it to the bar with me!
Handy travel directions - if you needed them - Google Maps does me fine, thanks! and I wasn't there long enough for the night bus - being on my own, I didn't hang around after the show. I don't hang out in bars on my own without a reason.
Ate, again - this time, I chose a table a bit further away from the pool table, and the table tennis - just as well, considering the number of times the ball bounced behind the bar, and they had to go and retrieve it! The two guys that run the club always take the names - on a Thursday, at least. Then one MCs, and the other performs as part of the show. They take turns - last night, it was the dark-haired guy (David Ward) performing, the lighter-haired guy (David Whitney) as MC. Regardless of which role they play, though, you do tend to get the same material..
Notable, last night, among the crowd was a large group of firefighters, out for their Christmas do. One guy in particular, at the end, fancied himself as competition for the acts on stage - to be fair, they didn't heckle much. The comedians, though, felt drawn to them. The lineup seemed much better last night than a week ago! Stand-out performance for me, though, was someone whose name, sadly, I didn't catch - she's English, assured us when she came on that she's not a Tory, that's just her accent.. she's also Jewish. And I really wish I knew her name, because she had a laconic style that was hilarious! She even seemed to be the only one to impress the firefighters.. So anyway, yay, a good night to finish off my year in London! Mind you, they could improve the hand dryers in the toilets - ironic, since one of the jokes on stage was about old-fashioned hand dryers, where by the time your hands were dry, you'd need to go again..
Too tired to blog last night. Tonight, back to Ireland for Christmas. Happy Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year! Seriously bad lineup of films over there, that I can see.. don't think there'll be anything before Christmas, anyway! So, watch this space for updates..
