Musical: Play On

Image
Tonight, back with  Over 40 Living the Life  - first time this year - for  Play On , a musical at the  Lyric Hammersmith . Re-imagines  Twelfth Night  - in the  Cotton Club !   Buddies on Budgets in London   is off to it next week, but what can you do..? I was in the office today, which made it slightly quicker to get to than it otherwise would have been. (Speaking of which, happy to report that the #188 came promptly this morning, for me to get to work - funnily enough, I was heading for the bus stop on one side when I saw a bus pulling away from it, and just in case, I made a dash for the stop on the other side, which is the next on the #188 route. And thus I made the #188 earlier than I otherwise would've! The journey was greatly enlivened by the small child next to me, who demanded to know what was in the container at the front. "Just newspapers", said mum. That child would not rest until mum pulled one out, whereupon child cheered ex...

Film: The Brutalist & Musical: Titanique

Image
Yesterday, I headed to  The Brutalist , about which I'd heard so much. Stars  Adrian Brody , and is so long they have an intermission.. and, heh, it was in the  Curzon Aldgate . So I booked again for   Cote on St. Katharine Docks .. I did have to use up that £3 or so I had left over on the voucher I got as compensation for that dreadful   dinner   a couple of weeks ago.. Oh, but it was a wet, cold, and miserable evening to be walking across a bridge . Met my flatmate, as he was going in and I was heading out - he complimented me on my dedication on going out in all weathers.. plus, the shoes I had on have soles that slip on slippery surfaces - like a wet pavement. Got to the restaurant slightly late - and immediately noticed a difference in attitude. Sure enough, that last crew were temporary - last night's staff couldn't have been more attentive, pouring my wine for me, asking me whether I wanted anything..  I had the Prix Fixe menu yesterday again, b...

Storytelling: The Three Snake Leaves, Drinks Session, Parade: Charles I's Execution, Winter Lights, & Concert: The Paddington Trio

Image
On Saturday evening , I was back with the  Crick Crack Club  at  King's Place , for  The Three Snake Leaves , with  Hugh Lupton ,  Ben Haggarty , and  Sally Pomme Clayton  - music by  Sheema Mukherjee . Accompanied by a sometime companion from Up in the Cheap Seats , who made suggestions about what we could do beforehand - we'd see.  Except, as it turned out, I was exhausted - Storm Éowyn , it turned out, cut power to my mother's house (among hundreds of thousands of others'), and after a late night, I was up early contacting people to make sure she was being looked after - which she was. But I was in no fit state to head out early - so we booked in the restaurant at King's Place, to meet there before the show. Except that we met earlier - funny that she messaged me that her bus was diverted, just as mine had announced a diversion too.. yup, we were on the same bus. Not only that, but she was actually sat right behind me.. we hadn't noti...

Film: Presence

Image
Tonight , second Meetup in a row as I decided to accompany  The Hideout  to see  Presence ! in  Picturehouse Central . Stars  Lucy Liu . Well, it doesn't have a terrific rating, but neither does it have a bad one - and the trailer looked good. Left later than anticipated - work again, bah - and lo, there was no mention on the departures board of the #381 - the #188 , which I could also take, wasn't due for a while. Sure enough, before I knew it, there was a #381, rounding the corner - no idea what's happening with that route these days.. they don't have the stop on the bus indicator either. Something odd going on. Anyway, I didn't have time for a proper meal. Happily, the nearby Pret was open, and I grabbed a bite there before heading over. When I met the group in the cinema bar, they were planning a quiz, cool.. hope I can make it. We were all sat pretty close together for the film. Funnily enough, for once I was the one who thought least of it - apart from ...

Play: A Good House

T wo  Meetup  days in a row now. Tonight, I headed to  A Good House , at the  Royal Court , with   Up in the Cheap Seats   (UITCS) - eating in  Cote Sloane Square  beforehand. Whose service speed had improved, the last couple of times I was there - I thought it'd be interesting to see whether they could keep the side up. Handily, I could get a bus there from work within about half an hour - I was in the office today - and it dropped me right around the corner from the restaurant, hurray! Also hurray for the lovely blast of hot air as you go in - I complimented the lady on the desk for that. I was slightly early for my booking, but was immediately shown to a table at the back. Had the same as  Wednesday of last week  in  Cote St. Katharine Docks  - the Prix Fixe menu,   with the pumpkin soup and steak frites, and a carafe of the Vielles Vignes Sauvignon Blanc, which I love. I skipped ordering dessert, which I knew I wouldn'...
