Jazz Tuesdays at the Americana
Tonight, back with CT at the Americana! This time, it was a jazz night.. which I figured I should get more of an experience of than that magic show.. and this time, I knew to starve myself beforehand!
Made it in good time - too good, with the poor maitre d' remarking that it was an hour till the show! It wasn't - they started around the time I got started with my main, at about 7.30, the time on my ticket. I had the same as before, BTW - the soup is too tasty not to have, and the chicken is moreish. Perhaps a but too much so, doused in BBQ sauce as it is - I did make a better hand of it tonight though, although I still left half the chips. Finished the ice cream, happily. Unfortunately, I only had Sauvignon Blanc tonight, which isn't on the "VIP" menu that CT customers get.. so my bill was a little more than last time. Ah well..
(Last time, I was sitting right beside where the piano was tonight..)
It's a nice, mellow sound - The Girl from Ipanema featured.. instrumental versions only. The Pink Panther theme got a rousing round of applause! They played for an hour or so, took a half hour break, got some red wine, played for just under another hour.. and the second half was pretty much a reprise of the first. I mean, they're good, but they could do with expanding their repertoire..
I had another of those incidents where I had trouble getting another drink: said it to two people, and shortly after I finally got my glass of wine, I saw the manager bring out another.. which got left on the serving counter while he reprimanded my waiter, then took it back to the kitchen. Hey, I'd have taken it, if it came to that..
On the way home, as I changed buses, I passed the crowds coming out of Mamma Mia! And of course, the rickshaw drivers were playing Abba songs.. so, a musical evening all round. Very nice.
