Work Social

Tonight, we had another work social! Back to  Fairgame , which was such a hit  last time  - and this one sold out. Although I'm off from tomorrow - as described below - it made no sense to go into the office today; I'm closer to Fairgame at home! Besides, it would've been pretty crowded in the office today. Ah Lordy though, such a pile of work - I could have got the bus, but ended up taking the Tube to allow myself more time to try to finish what I'd said I would. And wouldn't you know it, I had to leave it because I ran into a horrible snag.. I finally said enough was enough, and set off. The Tube was as crowded as ever - not to mention we had to stop at a red light "to even out gaps in the service". Still, I knew our booking was for 6pm - and it wasn't quite that when I exited the station into the maze that is Canary Wharf . But hey, I've gotten lost enough times here to have some idea where's where - and when I got nearer the venue, things...

Concert: Discover - Series III, Nordic Journey

Image
Tonight, I headed - for the first time in  years  - to join  Kensington Classical Music Meetup  at a concert called  Nordic Journey , at the  Leighton House Museum  - tickets only available by contacting the organiser directly, as advertised on the Meetup event page. Except I later discovered I could just have bought one on Eventbrite .. I also, last night, discovered that the organiser had pulled out, so I'd be going on my own. Interestingly, as I was examining past events from the group, I discovered he'd advertised this exact concert last week.. so, technically dated last week, but with today's date on the blurb! So, perhaps he and the other person who signed up for that were actually there tonight! If so, they were keeping a low profile.. You know, now that people at work know I'm off for a few days (as described below), they're getting very keen to give me things to do. I am, in fact, inundated - mainly with quite small stuff, but it does get irri...

Film: To a Land Unknown

I was in Ireland for the weekend - no films left for me to see there. Had a slightly eventful flight back, when our plane was caught in turbulence from the plane ahead - we had to circle, before landing safely.  Tonight, and back in London, I decided on film again - and what came up was   To a Land Unknown , a drama about emigration, which I meant to see previously but never got around to. Showing in the   Garden Cinema . Happily, it was on late, which gave me time to get some other stuff done. Happily also, I knew that Nando's Holborn is very close - which I didn't have to book. And happily again, all my buses came nice and quickly, leading to what was an easy night for me! The only problem with Nando's - where I was very well fed - was the door, which, regardless of whether the people passing through it remembered to close it, hardly ever closed properly, leading to an awful draught.. which was frigid when it came in my direction. Service was really quick though, and I...
