Musical: Fangirls

Last night, off to Fangirls at the Lyric Hammersmith. Not a standard pop fan story, this tells the tale of a young female fan's extraordinary obsession.. This was by Tube, so I was so, so glad that the temperatures are falling again!

The Jubilee Line was, predictably, a nightmare. I actually had to wait for the second train, the first was so packed.. but the second was much better; I even got a seat, after one stop! Boiling hot, though. It was such a relief to change to the airy and spacious District Line. Food-wise, I managed to find the Nando's in Hammersmith! so made my way there. Was seated almost immediately - they weren't busy, service was great, and as well as being well-fed (garlic bread not burnt, crucially, as I've had in others) - it turned out I had enough loyalty points to get my meal for free! Excellent..

Moseyed along to the theatre afterwards, where for once, we had seats - one of the group had booked a table in the bar, and eaten there. Nice chat before we headed upstairs to the theatre, and some nice Sauvignon Blanc. Interestingly, when I got another drink later, they were out of that.. but I'm happy to report that the Chenin Blanc is also good.

The others were towards the front - I was in the Rear Stalls:

Well, we had great fun at this - a trip through teenage girls' obsession with a boy band star. Called "Harry" - wonder where they came up with that one..? The teenagers are suitably over-the-top. Now, personally, I was never a boy band fan - but of course, I am a massive U2 fan. And it rang so true.. the constant thinking about them, the sheer joy at hearing they're appearing live, the panic about getting tickets, the despair at failing to do so. So yes, I was right there with them.. And boo to the mother who decided it was too expensive - true fans know you can't put a price on the experience. Mind you, I never went to the lengths of this kid..

The concert bits are spectacular - caveat, plenty of flashing lights. Cast members are peppered through the audience, egging us on, to make it more real. And it's heartwarming, if a bit daft.. as I say, great fun, and a great night was had! Runs till the 24th - recommended for anyone who's ever been a big music fan..

Last night, it ran too late to blog, given that I was doing the interminable film list. Tonight, back with London Literary Walks - this is the St. James' Walk. Still nice and warm, but not desperately hot - the weather should be good for this.

Tomorrow, film again (fourth in a week!) - a feature at the Prince Charles, who are re-showing It's Such a Beautiful Day, the animated film by Don Hertzfeldt, which will be accompanied by his new short film, Me. And of course, that'll be accompanied by a trip to Bella Italia (Cranbourn Street) ..

Then I'm back to Ireland for the weekend again. Film for the weekend is currently slightly up in the air - Alien: Romulus is released, and probably worth a look, but not yet rated: failing that, the choice is Kneecap, which I am keen to see, so that's fine. It's the biopic of the band of the same name, from Belfast, who rap in Irish and have caused massive controversy with their aggressive lyrics. They play themselves - the film also stars Michael Fassbender. Both showing in Limerick Omniplex.

On Monday - well, after all that film list fiddling, I couldn't resist going with The Hideout to see Star Wars: Episode IV, at the Prince Charles again.. I could have skipped doing the film list at all, this is just too good! Bella Italia again beforehand.. and this time, yes we are meeting at Clubhouse 5 before the film!

The next two days, it's TAC. On Tuesday, I'm at a play called The Weyard Sisters, a comedy about the witches in Macbeth. Showing in Riverside Studios.

Next Wednesday, I'm at Sinatra & Friends with Gary Williams, a tribute show at the Crypt Cafe at St. Martin-in-the-Fields

And on the 22nd, I'm headed to The Hideout's "Summer Social Part II" - in conjunction with another of their groups, which used to be called The London Movie Club, and is now known as Movie Roadhouse London. It's in the BFI Riverfront Bar - only thing is, there's a little confusion as to whether it's upstairs, as usual, or downstairs.. the description says both..
